Android Dev Handbook

Android Dev Handbook is a structured Android development reference covering Kotlin, Java, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines & Flow, architecture, testing, networking, storage, performance and core engineering concepts.

The goal of the project is to collect practical explanations, compact notes, important nuances and examples that help refresh Android development knowledge quickly.

Sections

  • Android - Android SDK, app components, lifecycle, View System, storage, background work, performance, platform behavior and rendering.
  • AI - on-device AI on Android, ML Kit, LiteRT, model integration, inference and practical API selection.
  • Kotlin - Kotlin basics, Kotlin vs Java, classes and types, collections, functions, generics and idiomatic Kotlin.

  • Jetpack Compose - declarative UI, state, recomposition, side effects, performance and Compose UI testing.
  • Coroutines & Flow - coroutines, structured concurrency, cancellation, Flow operators, StateFlow, SharedFlow and lifecycle-aware collection.
  • Architecture - modern Android architecture, Clean Architecture, MVVM, MVI, UI state, modularization and legacy refactoring.
  • Java - Java core, collections, exceptions, concurrency, JVM and Android Runtime specifics.
  • DI - Dependency Injection, Hilt, Dagger, scopes, modules and dependency graph.
  • Networking - HTTP, REST, Retrofit, OkHttp, serialization, error handling, GraphQL, gRPC and Protocol Buffers.
  • Security - Android security basics, HTTPS and TLS, certificate pinning, secure storage, OAuth, PKCE and token management.
  • Tools - debugging, diagnostics, profiling, benchmarking, production monitoring and QA-friendly internal builds.
  • Testing - testing strategy, unit tests, ViewModel tests, Coroutines & Flow testing, Espresso and Compose UI tests.
